Manning Era Over

Posted on: March 7, 2012 8:05 am

So, the Peyton Manning Era is over in Indianapolis.  Being a Colts fan and a UK fan, I have seen MAnning play for a very long time.  Even though he was a Volunteer, I grew to love and respect his play.  He was always, in my opinion, the best quarterback in the league.  Not just for his outstanding play, but also for his presence in the locker room, his leadership, and his work ethic.  He is probably going to go down in history as one of the very best quarterbacks to ever play the game.  But, he's not done yet.

I still do not know how I truly feel about Manning and the Colts parting ways.  Yes, I am saddened that I won't see #18 in a Colts uniform again.  I won't see another Manning/Brady showdown between the Colts and the Patriots.  And I am going to go a while without the Colts being the top of the AFC for consecutive years.  But, all that aside, I am also looking forward to what is to come.   I was hoping for a Green Bay type of situation where Luck or RGIII would come in a learn from Manning for a year or two...apparently this was not worth $28 million.  So, we will see what happens.

Bob Kravitz, of the Indianapolis Star, was very active on Twitter last night; one of his questions though, was very interesting.  He asked, "Would this have happened if the Colts would have won one more game?"  This is interesting to think about.  If the Colts would have won one more game, and they had the 2nd pick in the draft, would we be talking about where MAnning is going?  Or would we be talking about how he can turn this team around from last years debacle...We will never know, but it is fun to talk about!
